July Children's Summer classes at Wallkill River School

Art History Look and Paint with William Noonan
, A  hands on  approach to the history of western art. The first 45 minutes will be spent looking at pictures and then students will spend the remainder of time working on studies created from these images. Teens get multi-media paintings of old master’s work, and a working knowledge of art history. Each class will focus on a different area of European art with the fourth class being American art. Teens & Adults, beginners on up. Tuesday evenings 7-9:30 – July 28, Aug. 4, 11, 18 $132 free for teens!

Figure Drawing with Barry Pariser, Teens learn how to draw the figure and create portfolio samples of gesture drawings, long poses, charcoal and graphite drawings. Work from a live nude model with a professional artist. Materials provided. Sundays in July and August, 9:30-11:30am. Teens Free! (parental permission required)  Open to others $10/drawing session.

JULY 7-10; 10am-noon: “Fashion Replay”
Give fabrics, accessories, and discarded garments a Second Chance with Lisa Phillips Girls only camp, Ages 7-12, where she will learn how to make her own clothes using “no sew” and minimal sew techniques. Materials for this class are from the Hudson Valley Materials Exchange, a nonprofit clearinghouse for reusable and surplus materials in New Paltz. Bring old clothes from home as well. $100

JULY 7-10; 1-3pm: Cartooning with Gene Bove
, A fun class for the youngster (Ages 5-12) wanting to learn how to cartoon. Professional artist Gene Bove who is a published cartoonist teaches children the basics of cartooning; how to capture expressions, emotions, movement and turn yourself into a superhero! All materials provided.  $100

JULY 14-17; 10am-noon: Clay Camp with Emily Diefenbach, (Ages 5-12) Have fun hand-building with clay-learn to roll slabs to form simple structures, and how to slip and score to connect clay. Learn to use basic tools to shape clay, and how to center clay in the wheel. Make your own cylinders, mugs, vases, organic shapes etc. on wheel. All materials provided. $100

JULY 21-24; 10-noon: Movie Making Adventure for Boys with George Hayes,  (Ages 8-12) Boys only camp where campers will script and make their own action adventure movie! Boys will build all the sets, props, and decide on the story, then film and upload their movie to YouTube. All boys will get a copy of the finished movie. Movie may be about plastic army men, Matchbox cars, or other cool boy topic. $100

JULY 21-24; 1-3pm: Pinhole Photography with Michael Joyce, (Ages 9-18) Learn how to build and use your own pinhole camera out of reused materials. Work with a professional photographer to develop your photos in a real dark room! Limited to 6 children. You get to keep your camera and photo paper!$100

JULY 28-31; 10am-noon: Tie Dye and Batik with  Michael and Shawn Dell Joyce!
(Ages 7-18)  Learn how to turn drab, stained and boring old clothes into colorful, fashionable clothes! Tie Dye techniques and tips from husband and wife duo. Children will learn to carefully work with hot wax in a djanting tool to create simple batik designs. Teens and adults welcome too! Bring your own old clothes and sheets! $100

JULY 28-31; 1-3pm: All About Yarn with Debbe Cushman Femiak,
(Ages 9-18) Preteens learn to crochet, knit or make yarn goods. They will start with a simple chain and string beads on it to make a bracelet or necklace, then will learn a few simple stitches to make scarfs, hats or purses with various types of fascinating yarns. $100
