Acrylic Painting Studio with Nancy Reed Jones, Paint beautiful landscapes from photographs and learn the versatility of acrylics by mixing acrylics with slow drying mediums and using oil painting techniques, and thinning acrylics with water and using watercolor techniques. It’s like having the best of both worlds! Jones shares her tips for color mixing and dynamic brush strokes with a bit of soothing zen music mixed in. For beginners to advanced, teens and adults. Watercolor Workshop with Steve Blumenthal, Learn watercolor painting tips from multi-media master Steve Blumenthal. Learn to paint loose and wet with watercolor, and add just the right amount of details. Work from a variety of subjects; still life and photos. Beginners and advanced, teens and adults. Botanical Basics with Roberta Rosenthal, Students will learn the basics of accurate botanical drawing essential for detailed paintings. Line art, shading, perspective, proportion and plant anatomy are explored. Magnifiers are used to see plant parts. Botanical Drawing Basics uses graphite pencil on tracing paper and good quality drawing papers. As you increase your drawing skills, use watercolor pencil and watercolor. Learn from a botanical artist who has illustrated published books and been published in the New York Times. Ongoing: Wednesdays, 9:30-12:30, June-Aug.

Cartooning/Graphic Novels for Adults with Gerry Acerno,Did you ever have a story that you wanted to tell in PICTURES? This course will demonstrate how to layout comic book pages using “panels” and varying “camera angles” to bring your story to life. The style of drawing is up to the individual. Taught by veteran commercial artist, Gerry Acerno who has worked for Marvel, DC, Disney and Warner Bros. Bring samples of your work to the first class. Mandala Workshop with Beverly Brand Donato, The circle, an ancient symbol will become a container for your thoughts and cherished ideas. People from many cultures and centuries have used this symbol of wholeness to weave images, shapes, personal messages and symbols. We will paint, draw, use collage or any favorite medium. Abstraction with Nuala Clarke, Many people have a desire to paint abstractly but don’t quite know how to go about it. This one day workshop will help you get started in a relaxed and experimental atmosphere. Using practical exercises such as doodling, collaboration, accidental and alternative mark making we will open up and let go of assumptions in order to get to a place of authentic abstraction. Please bring drawing materials such as pencil or charcoal and paper, and painting materials (my preference is for acrylic on watercolor paper) and one item not usually used to put on paint.

Impressionism in Oil or Pastel with Dennis Fanton, Learn to paint like Monet, Manet and the French Impressionist from American Impressionist painter Dennis Fanton. Fanton emphasizes brush work, color relationships, strong values and value study, and planning your painting before you begin. Beginning Photo with Mary Ann Neuman, Unleash your creative inner genius in photography! No experience necessary, you don’t even need a camera. Learn basic photo techniques, and new ways of seeing using film or digital. Topics covered include choosing a subject, lighting, composition, exposure and use of color. Plein Air Workshop with Mary Anna Goetz, A one day workshop and opportunity to paint with an internationally known oil painter Mary Anna Goetz. She has an informative video and book available for loan through our school. The workshop is an intensive day long event with lunch included. All Creatures Great and Small with William Noonan, From pet poodles to demonic dragons this class encourages students to explore the world of fauna from the near and dear to the far off and imagined. Students will draw or paint from a variety of supplied materials including: photographs, historical paintings, diagrams. Students may also bring in their own reference material. Pastel Techniques with Shawn Dell Joyce, Learn how to mix color on the paper, and apply color theory to pastels. Learn techniques for blending, how to create interesting effects using nontraditional materials, and experiment with different paper surfaces, and hardnesses of chalk pastels. An exciting and fast-paced workshop for beginners, and experienced artists who want to learn basic pastel techniques. Work from old master’s exercises, and still lifes. Painting Trees in Plein Air Pastel with Shawn Dell, Get your hands dirty painting in the great outdoors! Learn to see trees as masses of values and paint them in pastels in a one day intensive workshop. Shawn will demonstrate her approach to painting trees, then help you through it step-by-step.
