Elaine M. Garvin, Watercolourist, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 15, with her son Edward P. Dusek by her side. Elaine is survived also by her husband, Claus Botjer and her five step-children and seven step-grandchildren. She will be missed by Nancy and John Riordan and John Jr. and Dennis, John Botjer, Pat Botjer, Heather Botjer and Hannah and Paige, Michael and Gina Botjer and Emma, Amanda and Mia. Born in the Bronx on January 17, 1947, Elaine is predeceased by her parents, William P. and Audrey M. Garvin (nee Porteus) and her sister, Lorry. Elaine is survived by her sister Audrey and her husband, Melvin, and brother Bill Garvin and Lorry’s partner, Doris McCaffrey. Sharing in their grief are her five nephews Jon, Brad, Matt and Will and two great nephews Anthony and Jayden. We will miss Elaine’s Thanksgiving feast and apple pies she made just like her Mother. Lola will miss keeping Elaine company and protecting her at night.Elaine has many relatives and friends shocked by her sudden death. Mary and John Cashin and Kevin and Joanne Dowd have been her lifelong friends from Cardinal Spellman class of 1965. A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology, Elaine was employed as a buyer at Abraham and Strauss in Brooklyn and helped to open the A&S in Paramus, NJ. A resident of Fort Lee and Teaneck, NJ, Elaine owned and operated White Glove Cleaning for many years until her art muse inspired her to paint. A member of Pascack Art Association and a signature Board member of the North East Watercolor Society (NEWS), Elaine volunteered to organize, show, teach, raise funds and establish relationships with members, organizations and vendors. Living in Warwick for the past decade, Elaine taught private art lessons in her studio and at Elderhostel at the Warwick Art Center. Elaine will be remembered as a gracious and generous woman, in recognition of her many volunteer hours for NEWS, an award in her name will be established to be presented at the annual international art show in Kent, CT. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, NY, on Thursday 7 – 9 p.m., Friday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.. A brief service will be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. A family gathering will take place on Saturday at 9 a.m.. Burial services will be graveside at 11 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
