Creative Placemaking Discussion

Tuesday, October 16th at 7pm – Free and Open to the Public

The Orange County Arts Council will host a Creative Placemaking discussion led by Leo Vazquez, Director of Arts Build Communities, in the Seligmann Studio at 23 White Oak Drive in Sugar Loaf. Mr. Vazquez, AICP/PP, has more than 15 years of experience as a community and economic development planner, and has special expertise in creative placemaking, cultural competency, leadership development, and strategic communications. SPARK

Wednesday, October 17th at 6pm at Arrow Park in Monroe

SPARK provides an opportunity for everyone to be a Patron of the Arts for an evening and is designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund local art-makers.

The theme for this upcoming SPARK event will be high school and college student-initiated projects and the Arts Council is encouraging students to propose collaborative projects that will benefit the community. Here’s how it works: Anyone with an arts project concept can submit a brief description (500 words or less) to the Arts Council and request SPARK funding to help get it off the ground. At the SPARK event, all attendees pay $10 at the door towards the SPARK fund for the evening. Food and refreshments are served; project proposals are distributed and those people who are looking for funding are given 2-3 minutes to talk about their project. Everyone votes for their favorite project and the winner gets all the SPARK money collected that evening to assist with their project. The more people that come, the more money we get to give away.  Anyone who has a project proposal they would like to submit should send it to jen@ocartscouncil.org by October 15th. A proposal template can be downloaded from the Arts Council website at www.ocartscouncil.org or requested via email.
