Orange County Arts Council Updates – January 2013

We have moved our offices!
The Orange County Arts Council is now located at 26 White Oak Dr. in Sugar Loaf (in the grey farmhouse across the street from our old offices). Come out and see us sometime!

Membership Appreciation Event Fri, March 1, 6-8pm Sugar Loaf
We would like to celebrate and recognize our 2012 Members in an Appreciation Event on Friday, March 1 from 6-8pm at the Seligmann Studio, 23 White Oak Dr. in Sugar Loaf. This is an open and free event to all our Arts Council members and their guests. Want to learn more about becoming a member? Join us this evening and find out. We thank all of our members for their support of the Arts Council over the last year and want to celebrate and recognize their involvement. Members are encouraged to bring nonmembers with them as an introduction to the Arts Council. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to jen@ocartscouncil.org.

Please join us in our mission and become a member of the Orange County Arts Council. Funds from membership directly support the Council’s programs and services. The arts are an essential ingredient in healthy and vibrant communities-people need art in their lives and their communities.The Arts Council and its members are committed to supporting arts in education, encouraging the arts as an economic engine in the county, promoting the arts, building new relationships, collaborating with other organizations and uniting our community through the arts. Artists, art organizations and arts appreciators-are all part of the Orange County community and with the support of its members, the Arts Council can ensure that the arts will continue to flourish-but we need your support. Open Studio Tour Feedback Meeting Wed, January 30, 5-6pm
We will be holding our first Open Studio Tour Committee Meeting at the upstairs studio, (23 White Oak Dr. Sugar Loaf) on Wednesday, January 30, 5-6pm. We will be reviewing all of the feedback we have received concerning the 2012 Open Studio Tour and begin to gather suggestions for our next studio tour. Orange County NY Film Office
The Orange County Arts Council is developing a county-wide Film Office for the purposes of attracting film-makers to our county and to streamline the process of filming here. The Arts Council has held meetings with the New York State Film Commission, Silver Cup Productions and local film professionals to get this project off the ground. We are in the process of developing a new website for this office and need to include lots of photos of locations unique to Orange County. We are looking for photos of interesting buildings, street scenes, farms, landscapes, historic houses, etc. to include in a photo library that can be shared with Film Location Managers. If you have any photos you would be willing to share with us for this purpose OR if you are willing to take some photos for us, please e-mail dawn@ocartscouncil.org. This is an important economic opportunity for the county and we appreciate your help.

Women of Valor: Honoring our Women in Uniform, Past and Present
Friday, March 22, 2013 Mount Saint Mary College – Desmond Campus
The Arts Council is working with Mount Saint Mary College, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, and Veteran Family Services Administration to help organize an empowering and educational event for any woman who has ever served in any branch of the military. This free conference will include sessions on art therapy, VA benefits, going back to school, interviewing, finance, legal issues and relaxation activities like yoga and zumba. If there are any artists or arts organizations that would like to have promotional information at this event OR if you know of any servicewomen who would like to attend, please contact the Arts Council at dawn@ocartscouncil.org.

2013 All County Dance Celebration Sun, April 28 3pm (location TBA)
The Orange County Arts Council is once again organizing its annual All County Dance Celebration. Orange County dancers, choreographers, dance companies and dance studios are invited to participate in this one day performance. The Orange County Arts Council Dance Celebration will provide dancers who live and work in Orange County an opportunity to perform in a County Wide show that will increase their visibility to the general public and provide an opportunity for self-expression. The Orange County Arts Council invites all supporters to join us as we celebrate dance as an art form and work to raise public awareness of the artistic beauty, local availability and fundamental benefits of dance. Artist Salons
Thursday, January 31 & Every Last Thursday of the Month
Are you looking for an opportunity to meet other artists? Share your work? Talk about your challenges? Then look no further! On the last Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm, come to the Artist Salons in the Seligmann Studio at the Arts Council offices in Sugar Loaf (23 White Oak Dr.). These salons are for all artists and arts appreciators of all types – musicians, theatre people, dancers, visual artists, etc. All are welcome! These are pot-luck events, so bring food, bring music, bring talents, questions and ideas! Bring Art! The next Artist Salon will take place on Thursday, January 31st– see you there!

Marketing Committee
Would you like to help the Arts Council market itself as well as the collective arts here in Orange County? If so, please consider joining the Arts Council’s Marketing Committee. This group will be discussing a new format for our eblast, website modifications, social media outlets and any other interesting marketing ideas. Arts and Healthcare Summit
The Arts Council is organizing a county-wide Arts and Healthcare Summit at Orange Regional Medical Center on Friday, April 5, 2013. We are in the process of developing an arts resource guide that will be provided to all summit participants. If you are an artist who has worked in healthcare or offered workshops in healthcare environments, please contact Dawn at dawn@ocartscouncil.org.

Arts in Education
Do you know a high school student who wants to be a STAR? Then encourage them to join our new Student Arts Council Board called the Orange County STARS (Students Together for Arts Recognition)! If you know of a high school student who appreciates or creates art of any kind (visual, performing, literary), wants to meet other students who share their interests AND would like to have a voice in the development of Arts Council policies and activities, download the application here and have them give us a call!

Articles Needed!
The Orange County Arts Council would like to post your article on our website! If you have an educational article that you would like to share, we would be happy to post it. Articles should be no longer than 500 words and can also include a picture. Send articles to dawn@ocartscouncil.org. Please note: we reserve the right to edit articles, as well as determine if and when any article will be posted. Thanks in advance!
