In collaboration with the Village of Monroe Events Committee, the Girl Scouts of Monroe re coordinating an Art Walk. Come enjoy some music, taste some food, and
walk around to the various artists’ tables.
Enjoy conversation about art or purchase a piece that speaks to you. Children may also visit the Kids Corner to gain some hands-on experiences.

Warwick Art On The Green (WAOTG) has just announced a new web site www.waotg.com and dates for the 2012 season May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, and October 21.
If you’ve participated in past years, then welcome back. If you’re new to Warwick Art On The Green, our organization hosts art and music events throughout the spring, summer, and fall months on Railroad Green in downtown Warwick NY. Artists can display and sell their pieces while musicians/bands/singers/dancers can showcase their talents. Our goal is to help bring art, music, and the community together.

If you’re an artist or musician interested in participating in an event, please visit our web site at www.waotg.com and register to become a new member. Once a member, you’ll have access to register for any of the posted events. Artist booth fees are listed per event and there is no cost for musicians.

Combining words and images is of specific interest, so art journaling is a large part of her studio practice. She most recently served as Chair of the Visual Arts Committee of the Putnam Arts Council, and exhibits regionally.

Hope Prevails During Difficult Times

When a family in Chester lost their home to a fire in early March, The Clothing Closet at Vision Community Church was able to provideclothing and other necessities completely free of charge.

Dressed in the business attire the wife chose from the shelves and tables piled with like-new clothes, she was able to go on a job interview. And she got the job!

When Harrison Cullen, a Warwick Valley 7th grader, volunteered to help at The Clothing Closet right before Christmas, he got to experience the sheer joy of giving, stating, “ To see the faces of the kids light up when they got their presents was amazing.”

When Sharon Scott, The Clothing Closet coordinator, asked a 5 year old boy who was looking around at all the winter coats if he would like one, he replied: “No thank-you. I have a coat. But can I have a pair of gloves for my brother? He doesn’t have any, and his hands are always cold.”

These are just some of the stories from The Clothing Closet, Warwick’s new clothing bank. Families in need have been welcome to “shop” for what they need during the Warwick Community Kitchen, but it became evident the need for clothing, shoes and housewares was ongoing and being open once a month was inadequate.

In response, the Clothing Bank will have a “grand opening” on Sunday, April 22nd from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Pine Island Elementary School parking lot, School House Road, Pine Island, New York.

Then the Clothing Closet will be open the 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month at the Pine Island Elementary School, from 10am -1pm.

Although the clothing bank began as a winter coat drive, “The response from the Warwick community was overwhelming,” said Scott. “Soon we were able to offer clothing, shoes, books and toys. Anyone who has a need is welcome to come and take what they can use.”

Volunteers are welcomed both for sorting items on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and to help run the Clothing Bank during operating hours.

In order to support The Clothing Closet , Vision will be opening The Hope Chest, a boutique that will carry like-new designer clothing, housewares, hand-made items, jewelry, and other goods. In addition to gently used merchandise, The Hope Chest will offer an array of services that are donated by the community. 100% of the proceeds from
The Hope Chest go to the support of The Clothing Closet and Vision Community Church for operating costs. It is open to the community during the same hours as the clothing bank.

Donations are greatly appreciated and can be dropped off during the hours of operation at Vision Community Church in the old Pine Island School, 20 School House Road, Pine Island.

The Warwick Rock-n-Roll Art Show and Chair Auction

May 4th from 5-6:30
The Warwick Valley Central School District Art Department will be sponsoring a Gallery hopping art show on May 4th. The Elementary and Middle school art show will be held at the District Office from 5:00-6:30. Then hop up to the High School lobby for the “Rock -n- Roll Art Show and Chair Auction” beginning at 6:00. The students have been working tirelessly for several months to transform an ordinary chair into a work of art. The chairs will be auctioned off to the public with all proceeds going to our graduating seniors in the form of art scholarships. The chairs are painted in a style of an art movement, style or a particular artist. The junior and senior portfolio class and a few other juniors and seniors as well as art department faculty members will be participating in the event. The 25+ chairs range in style from Peter Pan and an Animal Kingdom chair to a beautifully rendered horse and a Norman Rockwell chair! There is a chair for everyone! The district wide art show will consist of works from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The chairs will be on display before the auction in the high school lobby, so come early to get a sneak peak! There will be finger food, music and fun! Student designed T-shirts will be for sale in the lobby with part of the proceeds being donated to a local art based charity. The auctioning of the chairs will begin at 7:00 in the auditorium.
