The Albert Wisner Public Library will feature a group show of the Warwick Art League’s Friday Morning Painters in its gallery from July 2 to July 31.

The nine local artists of the Friday Morning painters participating in the exhibit are: Gulsen Beasley, Robert Innela, Sarah Lane, Alma Larkin, Sylvia Levy, Sarah McHugh, Winnie O’Dougherty, Gwenda Ross and Mary Sealfon.

The exhibit will include oil paintings, pastels, watercolors and sculptures.

For more than 25 years, the Friday Morning Painters, artists from the Warwick and the surrounding area, have gathered together on Friday mornings to paint portraits, figure drawings, still life or whatever pleases their imaginations.

During the summer months they gather at a pleasant local scene for plein aire painting. They enjoy the company of the fellow artists, their discussions of famous works of art and an occasional critique of their own work.

The group began by meeting at the Bandwagon, later called Doc Fry’s and now known as the Warwick Community Center. At the present time the group meets at the Warwick Senior Center on Kings Highway. They extend an invitation to artist’s in the community to join them at the Warwick Senior Center.

The Albert Wisner Public Library is located at One McFarland Drive in the Village of Warwick. The gallery is on the lower level of the facility. For library hours, visit www.albertwisnerlibrary.org

Special screenings of the film ART AND COPY will be held on Saturday (11/14), Sunday (11/15) and Monday (11/16) at the Downing Film Center located on the Newburgh waterfront at 19 Front St. The screenings are scheduled at the following times: Sat (11/14) at 8:30 PM, Sun (11/15) at 1 PM, and Mon (11/16) at 7:15 PM.
Peter Nelson, Director of Photography for ARTS AND COPY, will meet the audience and present a Question and Anser session after the screening on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8:30 PM. Tickets for this event are $8. Regular admission prices are in effect for the other two screenings on Sunday and Monday.
About ART AND COPY

ART AND COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (‘Surfwise,’ ‘Scratch,’ ‘Hype!’), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ‘Art & Copy’ were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

About the DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Peter Nelson has photographed a wide variety of feature films, commercials and documentaries in a multitude of film and video formats. His signature naturalistic style has taken him around the world to capture life as it happens for fiction and non-fiction films. Feature credits include ART & COPY, SICKO, A TALE OF TWO PIZZAS, PIPE DREAM, SUITS and the cult New York romance ED’S NEXT MOVE which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He has done domestic and international documentary work for PBS, HBO, BBC (often with their flagship arts program Arena), and Granada Television. Recent commercial work includes campaigns for PBS, American Family Insurance, Stop and Shop, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. Other commercial credits include spots for Lifetime, Coca-Cola, Champion, and Calvin Klein. Peter received a BFA in Film and Television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Bringing this group of artists together for the Locust Grove Invitational, a benefit for the Samuel Morse Historic Site at Locust Grove, was such a successful and rewarding experience that it seemed natural to follow up the spring’s event with an autumn exhibition here at the gallery.

This time of year offers a special opportunity to visit the Catskills in all their glory. Visitors to the gallery will not be disappointed by the journey or the destination.
