Gallery of Hope Art “Works” Contest – Winning Entry to Represent the 2012 National Learning Congress If you’re talented with a paint brush, and you happen to be an organ, tissue or cornea transplant recipient, donor family member, or someone waiting for a transplant, then get out that easel! The Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance has launched the 2012 Gallery of Hope Art “Works” for Transplantation Contest and you’re invited to submit an entry. Capture in art how and why donation and transplantation are important. The winning artwork will become the signature graphic of the 7th National Learning Congress (NLC) for the upcoming year. The NLC aims to improve organ donation outcomes through the sharing of best practices with professionals and organizations. This year’s congress will be held on October 3-4 in Grapevine,Texas. So start imagining! The deadline for artwork submission is April 4, 2012. Students: Touch-A-Truck Logo Needed: Touch-A-Truck will take place on Sunday, June 3rd. It is a fun-filled family event that allows children (of all ages) to touch, climb on, pretend to drive and photograph all types of exciting trucks and equipment including: tow trucks, backhoes, fire trucks, concrete mixers, diggers, dumpers, excavators, cherry pickers and more. In addition to the trucks, there will be children’s activities such as inflatable rides, face painting and character appearances. We are also partnering with the Orange County Pilots Association’s Aviation Expo to bring airplanes, helicopters and skydivers to the event, held at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery, NY. We hope you will join us and be a part of the fun! Before we can have the event, we need a logo for our banners, t-shirts, posters, and more. That’s where the kids come in! Prizes will be awarded for our top three winners. Our favorite logo will be used on all of our promotional materials for the next year.
Children ages 3-17 are invited to enter the Touch-A-Truck Logo Contest! Draw a vehicle, airplane or combination of the two in the box on our contest form or on a separate sheet of paper. All drawings must be no larger than 5″ x 7″ and must be hand-drawn exclusively in crayon, colored pencil or magic marker. Please do not use letters or words in the drawing. Do not use more than four (4) colors. Entries that are selected will become the exclusive property of the United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region for promotional purposes only. No entries will be returned. Deadline for entries is March 14, 2012.
Committee Members Needed: Orange County Arts Council Car Show Fundraising Event: The OCAC is holding an Arts and Car Show Fundraiser for Sunday, May 20, 2012 and is asking for interested people to sit on a committee to help plan and develop the event. Arts for Veterans The Arts Council is working to develop an arts program for our servicemen and women. We have met with Tony Zippo, Orange County Director of Veterans Affairs and Andy Komonchak from the Purple Heart Hall of Honor to find out what kind of programs we should offer and how best to communicate with the veteran community. We also worked with The Graffiti of War Project to bring their National Art Exhibition to Mikey Teutul’s WolfGang Gallery & Store in Montgomery this past weekend. The Orange County Arts Council is building a Committee to develop this program and is looking for dedicated volunteers who are interested in working with us. Open Studio Tour: We are in the early stages of planning our 2012 Open Studio Tour and need your help. Please consider being a part of our planning committee for this event. Involvement will require attendance at monthly meetings, help with promotion (including flyer and map distribution) and encouraging and organizing artist participation. Artist Salons: Every Last Thursday of the Month. Are you looking for an opportunity to meet other artists? Share your work? Talk about your challenges? Bounce your creative ideas off of another like-minded person to see what they think? Then look no further! On the last Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm, come to the Artist Salons in the Seligmann Gallery at the Arts Council offices in Sugar Loaf. These salons are for all artists and arts appreciators of all types – musicians, theatre people, dancers, visual artists, etc. All are welcome! These salons are pot-luck events, so bring food, bring music, bring talents, questions and ideas! Bring Art! The first Artist Salon will take place on Thursday, February 23rd – see you there!

Creative Conversations :Wednesday, February 29, 2012 6-8pm in Sugar Loaf. Creative Conversations are local gatherings of engaged citizens in communities across the country and are part of a grassroots movement to elevate the profile of arts in America. Some of these local convenings have grown into cohesive, organized networks, been the catalyst for the development of community wide cultural plans, and helped to shape local arts advocacy. Our topic will be The Impact of Sculpture on the Community and all are invited to attend!

SPARK: Thursday, April 26th at Rogowski Farm in Pine Island. Proposals for SPARK are now being accepted for our Spring event which will be held at Rogowski Farms in Pine Island. The theme for this SPARK event will be Arts and Agriculture and we are particularly interested in proposals that demonstrate collaborations and/or combinations of these twoOrange County staples. Here’s how it works. Individuals wishing to submit a proposal can download a proposal template from the Arts Council website (click here to access the template). Attendees (those presenting proposals and those there to vote) pay $15 towards the SPARK fund for the evening. Food and refreshments are served and time is given to network and socialize. Proposals are distributed to the attendees and individuals are given 2-3 minutes to talk or give a presentation about their project. All those in attendance will then vote for their favorite project and the most votes receives the SPARK proceeds generated from the evening to assist with their project. The more people who come, the more money is awarded. Please submit proposals to jen@ocartscouncil.org.
Orange County Arts Council 2012 All-County Dance Celebration Sunday, April 29 at 3pm. The Orange County Arts Council will hold its first All-County Dance Celebration on April 29, 2012 to coincide with National Dance Week. Orange Countydancers, choreographers, dance companies and dance studios will be participating in this one day performance. The Orange County Arts Council invites all supporters to join us as we celebrate dance as an art form and work to raise public awareness of the artistic beauty, local availability and fundamental benefits of dance. Mount Saint Mary College Artists on Campus Artists on the Campus is working with the Newburgh Rotary to present the 37th annual art show in conjunction with A Taste of Greater Newburgh. It will be a win/win collaboration — great food, great music and now, great artwork. The combined shows will be held on Sunday, May 20th at Mount Saint Mary College. More details will follow once they are finalized.
