Art in Motion Car and Cycle Show: Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 10am to 3pm at the Warwick Drive-In. VENDORS NEEDED! All vendors will be listed on our promotional flyers, as well as on the Arts Council website and Facebook page. This is a great opportunity to see, be seen and sell!
Artist Salons: Thursday, May 31st & Every Last Thursday of the Month Are you looking for an opportunity to meet other artists? Share your work? Talk about your challenges? Bounce your creative ideas off of another like-minded person to see what they think? Then look no further! On the last Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm, come to the Artist Salons in the Seligmann Gallery at the Arts Council offices in Sugar Loaf. These salons are for all artists and arts appreciators of all types – musicians, theatre people, dancers, visual artists, etc. All are welcome! These salons are pot-luck events, so bring food, bring music, bring talents, questions and ideas! Bring Art! The next Artist Salon will take place on Thursday, May 31st – see you there!
Opening Reception for Orange County Month Exhibit Friday, June 1 at 6pm. Join us this Friday night as we celebrate the arts here in Orange County with a beautiful exhibit of both visual and literary arts. Come see work from over 30 Orange County artists and celebrate the many reasons why we live in this beautiful county.
Workshop: Be Your Own Best Salesperson, Tuesday, June 12 from 7pm to 9pm. The Orange County Arts Council will host a sales workshop led by Debra Pearlman, Executive Sales Trainer and CEO of DP Sales Pro. Attendees will leave this workshop with the skills needed to talk about themselves and their work with more confidence and ease. Cost is $15 for Arts Council members and $25 for non members andadvanced registration is required. Cultural Identity: Through the Lens Deadline: Monday, June 18. The Art League of Long Island is accepting artist applications for their upcoming photography competition and exhibit titled “Cultural Identity: Through the Lens.” The exhibit is scheduled to run August 4 through September 2 in the League’s Jeanie Tangles Gallery. Cultural diversity was selected as the focus of the exhibit in an effort to inspire genuine dialogue among cultures. Artist interpretations capturing the essence of cultural diversity in images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (i.e., shot on film, shot digitally, unaltered shots, alternative process, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photograms, etc.) as long as part of the image is photographically created and the photo is original to the artist. NYFA’s Artist as Entrepreneur Bootcamp. The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA)’s “The Artist as Entrepreneur: Boot Camp” is an intense 5 session course that trains 50-60 artists in the fundamental principles of sustainability – and ultimately profitability – in the arts. This includes classes on finance, accounting, law, marketing, and fundraising. The structure is a blend of formal lectures, breakout groups, take-home assignments, and one-on-one consultations. This July, NYFA and NYU Steinhardt Performing Arts Administration Program will collaborate in presenting “The Artist as Entrepreneur: Boot Camp,” for members of the performing arts community including, dance, theater, film, music, music composition and more. The program will take place on the NYU campus and be led by a team of NYFA staff and expert presenters from the performing arts community. The Artist As Entrepreneur Boot Camp runs on July 13-15, and 21-22, and will take place on the NYU campus. Five sessions: July 13 (evening introductory session), and July 14, 15, 21, and 22 (day long sessions, approximately 10am until 5pm). Please visit our website for the Boot Camp Application. Monroe Outdoor Artwalk 2012 deadline June 1: Coordinated by Monroe Girl Scouts & The Village of Monroe Events Committee. All County Open Studio Tour: Next Meeting: TBD. We are planning our 2012 Open Studio Tour again and it promises to be bigger and better than ever. Please consider being a part of our planning committee for this event and attend our next meeting. Involvement will require attendance at monthly meetings, help with promotion (including flyer and map distribution) and encouraging and organizing artist participation. Creative Veterans: Next Meeting: Thursday, June 14that 9am at the Vets Center, Middletown. The Arts Council is looking for veterans in our community who are already involved in some kind of creative activity – writing, metal work, woodworking, sculpture, drawing, photography, etc. If you are a creative veteran or know someone who is and you would like to get involved, please contact Dawn at 469-9168 or dawn@ocartscouncil.org. There may be opportunities to display your work at the Veterans picnic on June 2nd or at the Orange County Arts Council’s “Art in Motion” Car and Motorcycle show in August.

Arts and Healthcare Summit. The Arts Council is working with a wonderful group of artists and healthcare professionals to plan a regional Arts and Healthcare Summit for 2013. Stay tuned for more details!
Arts in Education. The Arts Council’s Education Committee is planning a Portfolio Review Day for high school students on Saturday, October 27th at the Seligmann Homestead in Sugar Loaf. A list of participating colleges will be available in June.
We are also creating a Student Arts Council Board so that our high school students can have a voice in the development of Council policies and activities. Applications are being sent to all high schools – have your student check with his or her art teacher or call the Arts Council for an application form.

Funds from membership directly support the Council’s programs and services. As we all know, the arts are an essential ingredient in healthy and vibrant communities.
