Art for Public Areas

Orange Regional invites local artists to submit proposals for artwork in multiple mediums to be commissioned for and featured in public areas of the hospital (specific areas detailed below).

Orange Regional opened in 2011 as the first new, freestanding hospital in New York State in more than 20 years. The hospital is committed to maintaining an impeccable healing environment. Artwork is integrated into this environment to enhance wellness and reduce patient, visitor, and staff stress.

Proposed art can highlight unique local features of the landscape and region; it can be interactive, unexpected & pleasantly surprising, dynamic, imaginative, comforting, hopeful, welcoming/enveloping, introspective, reflective of personal patient journeys (dreams, preferences, goals), and celebratory of life and the joy of living.

Artwork will be selected by an Art Committee of regional art experts and Orange Regional’s Art Curator, Sarah Johnson; selections will be based on content, style, and cost. The Committee would like to have art installed prior to the end of 2014. The anticipated total budget available for commissions is $25,000.

This call is open to all emerging and mid-career artists with a permanent mailing address and active art practice in Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, and Rockland Counties; preference will be given to artists living and working in Orange County.

Submittal Deadline: August 15, 2014

Art Size/Location:

Artwork(s) should be scaled to fit the following areas (with an average size of 20” x 20” or larger):
1. Hallway 1 – 68’ hallway with white walls and natural light
2. Hallway 2 – 48’ hallway with earth tones/wallpaper
3. Hallway 3 – 28’ hallway with earth tones/wallpaper
4. Healing Garden – 4-5’ area/niche for sculpture

Medium:

Oil, Acrylic, Pastel, Watercolor, Glass, Mosaic Tile, Photography (including photo series), Fabric, Metal, and Mixed Media

Submittal Instructions:

Please submit up to 4 digital images/photos per medium. Include description of medium, art size, and artist’s cost. Submitted artwork does not have to be available, as submittals are to represent the style in which you work. Brief proposals for new works to be created for the space(s) may also be submitted. Please include your full contact information along with an artist’s statement and resume. Submittals can be digital or printed images. No original works will be accepted as a submittal. Notification:

All artists will be notified of selection status on or near August 29, 2014. Submittals from artists who were not selected will be returned at this time if return instructions and postage were included with their submissions.
