Art in Motion Car and Cycle Show

Proceeds to benefit the Orange County Arts Council

Sunday, August 12 10am-3pm (raindate, Sunday August 19)

On Sunday, August 12th from 10am to 3pm at the Warwick Drive-In, the Orange County Arts Council will hold its first Art in Motion Car and Cycle Show. This event will be open to the community and will feature classic cars from 1987 and older, along with food, music, art, vendors and family-friendly activities. Music will be provided throughout the day by The Hudson Valley Jazz Fest Ensemble. There will be an exhibit tent for artwork, with a special exhibit by some of Orange County’s talented Veterans. If you are a Creative Veteran or know of one who creates art of any kind and are interested in participating, please call the Arts Council at 845-469-9168. The Art in Motion Car and Cycle Show will also feature car hood painting demonstrations. One featured artist will be Nub from Nub Grafix. The cost is $2 per person or $5 per family to attend for the day. The registration fee for car participants is $20 and vendor spots are still available for $50. Orange County Art Awards, Nomination Forms Now Available

The Orange County Arts Council Annual Art Awards recognize living individuals, organizations, and corporations which have made outstanding contributions to the arts in our community. Recipients may include individual artists, arts patrons, volunteers, non-profit cultural organizations, and corporate patrons. Nominations should be based on artistic excellence, sustained contributions, unusual achievement, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the arts and the community. Recipients will be chosen by a Selection Panel appointed by the Arts Council. The Awards will be presented at a gala evening event in November – date and location to be determined. Deadline for submission is 5:00 pm Friday, September 28, 2012 to Orange County Arts Council, P.O. Box 574, 23 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf, NY 10981. Open Studio Tour, October 13 & 14 and 20 & 21

The Open Studio Tour will be covering all of Orange County this year and will take place over TWO weekends.  The Open Studio Tour provides a rare opportunity for the public to observe working artists during the creative process and also presents artists with an opportunity to market their work to the local community.  Full color booklets will be laid out by the Arts Council and 3,000 will be printed and distributed throughout the county.  If you are interested in learning more about the Open Studio Tour or if you would like to request a booklet, please call Jen at 469-9168 or email at jen@ocartscouncil.org.

VENDORS NEEDED for Art in Motion Car and Cycle Show

If you are interested in having a vendor table at this new and exciting event, please email Dawn at dawn@ocartscouncil.org. The cost is $50 for the day and you will need to bring your own tent. All vendors will be listed on our promotional flyers, as well as on the Arts Council website and Facebook page. This is a great opportunity to see, be seen and sell!

For those of you who have not yet joined, please consider helping us in our mission and become a member of the Orange County Arts Council.  Funds from membership directly support the Council’s programs and services.  As we all know, the arts are an essential ingredient in healthy and vibrant communities.  The Arts Council and its members are committed to supporting arts in education, encouraging the arts as an economic engine in the county, promoting the arts, building new relationships between the arts and other aspects of community life, collaborating with other organizations and uniting our community through the arts. Artist Salons, Thursday, July 26 & Every Last Thursday of the Month

Are you looking for an opportunity to meet other artists? On the last Thursday of every month from 7pm to 9pm, come to the Artist Salons in the Seligmann Gallery at the Arts Council offices in Sugar Loaf. These salons are for all artists and arts appreciators of all types – musicians, theatre people, dancers, visual artists, etc. All are welcome! These salons are pot-luck events, so bring food, bring music, bring talents, questions and ideas! Bring Art! The next Artist Salon will take place on Thursday, July 26th.

Music Community Forum, Monday, July 30 at 6pm

If you are involved in music in Orange County, we hope you’ll come to this forum and talk to us about how we can work together to call attention to the diverse music offerings here in our county. Email Dawn at dawn@ocartscouncil.org if you are able to attend.

Dance Community Forum, Wednesday, August 15 at 6pm

Last year at this time, a group of individuals involved with dance in Orange County got together at the Orange County Arts Council and decided to work together to create the first every, All-County Dance Celebration.  This event was held this last April in honor of National Dance Week and brought together 17 dance groups in a one time performance to showcase to Orange County the diversity and talent available here.  Once again, we would like to hear from the community their opinions and suggestions on how the Orange County Arts Council can work with the dance community in 2013.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Jen at jen@ocartscouncil.org.  We will be meeting at the OCAC offices at 23 White Oak Dr. Sugar Loaf.

Artists & Vendors Needed, Ann Street Market, Newburgh, Saturday August 4

Safe Harbors of the Hudson is pleased to announce their annual Ann Street Market on Saturday, August 4 from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM. Safe Harbors needs you, local farms & farmers, food purveyors, artists, artisans, and musicians. Vendor space is $25 and all proceeds benefit Safe Harbors of the Hudson. Artist Lofts Available, Cornerstone Residence, Newburgh

Apartments are single room occupancy. Artist lofts vary in layout and are between 575 and 625 square feet in size. All artist lofts have a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, electric oven, and microwave, plus a full bathroom. Each artist loft is equipped with two regular size closets and one smaller storage closet. Artist housing also includes use of a shared 4000-square-foot art studio. Our artist housing is for people who regularly engage in the arts as a career and have a body of work that demonstrates the development of that art and the intention to pursue that work for the foreseeable future. Orange County Gallery Space anyone??

Orange County Arts Council is working with Museum Village to create an art gallery/artist co-op retail space in one of their under-utilized buildings on the property. This building is right on Route 17M and has great exposure. Marketing Committee

Would you like to help the Arts Council market itself as well as the collective arts here in Orange County? If so, please consider joining the Arts Council’s Marketing Committee. This group will be discussing a new format for our eblast, website modifications, social media outlets and any other interesting marketing ideas. Creative Veterans Next Meeting: Wednesday, August 1 at 9am

The Arts Council is looking for veterans in our community who are already involved in some kind of creative activity – writing, metal work, woodworking, sculpture, drawing, photography, etc. If you are a creative veteran or know someone who is and you would like to get involved, please contact Dawn at 469-9168 or dawn@ocartscouncil.org. There may be opportunities to display your work at the Orange County Arts Council’s “Art in Motion” Car and Motorcycle show in August. Arts and Healthcare Summit

The Arts Council is working with a wonderful group of artists and healthcare professionals to plan a regional Arts and Healthcare Summit for 2013. If you are interested in working with us on this event, please contact Dawn at dawn@ocartscouncil.org.

Arts in Education

The Arts Council’s Education Committee is planning a Portfolio Review Day for high school students on Saturday, October 27that the Seligmann Homestead in Sugar Loaf.  So far, we have Alfred University, Mercy College and SUNY Purchase participating.  A complete list of participating colleges will be available in July.

We have our first four students for our new Student Arts Council Board – welcome to Gabrielle ModesteLisa MartimucciKristie MacNeiland Brynna Crovetto! If you know of a high school student (Junior or Senior as of September 2012) who appreciates or creates art of any kind (visual, performing, literary), wants to meet other students who share their interests AND would like to have a voice in the development of Arts Council policies and activities, download the application here and have them give us a call!
